The chalet “Les Racines” is just a 5-minute walk from the ski slopes of the Alpe d’Huez ski area, which ranges from 1300 to 3330 meters in altitude. A ski locker will be available for you at the bottom of the slopes. You can walk to the slopes, grab your skis and ski boots from the locker and ski directly from there. The village of Villard-Reculas is part of this magnificent ski area, which offers 250 km of ski runs with a vertical drop of 2200 meters. The Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine Ski is highly appreciated by winter sports enthusiasts for its reliable snow conditions, extensive network of slopes, and year-round sunshine. It is rightly called the “Island in the Sun.”
State-of-the-art ski lifts take you quickly and efficiently from 1300 meters up to the summit of Pic Blanc at 3330 meters, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of one-fifth of France, including Mont Blanc, Mont Ventoux, and the Puy de Dôme. From Pic Blanc, experienced skiers can challenge themselves on two of the most famous black runs in the Alps: Le Tunnel and La Sarenne. The latter, at 16 km long, is the longest ski run in the world and remains open throughout the winter season.

The beginner area is located at the foot of the slopes, making learning easy and safe. For advanced skiers, the Villarais chairlift gives access to the 250 km of slopes in the Grand Domaine, as well as the dozen or so local slopes of Villard-Reculas. Automatic snowmakers ensure good skiing conditions from mid-December through April.
